KUCHING: The Batu Kawah Riverbank Park has become the first park in Sarawak to be equipped with an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Yayasan OBYU, a non-profit organisation donated the AED to enhance community safety and emergency preparedness as well as equip the park with vital emergency equipment that can significantly increase the chances of survival in the event of someone experiencing a cardiac arrest.

The Batu Kawah Riverbank Park is a five phase park development in the Batu Kawah area that covers 15.6 acres with a 2km walkway from the Chinese temple at the Batu Kawah Old Bazaar to Kampung Rantau Panjang.

Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Stampin Branch chairman Chai Chon Hon said the AED is important in life-saving.

“We believe that every individual should have access to life-saving equipment and knowledge that can make a crucial difference in emergency situations,” he said in a statement.

He added the MRCS Stampin Branch is also committed to empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively during emergencies.
