DEBAK: Durian sellers and buyers along the Pan Borneo Highway are reminded to always be vigilant.

Parti Keadilan Sarawak Leadership Council secretary Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh said that the local durian season in Sarawak started in November and is expected to last until the end of December.

“Durian traders can be seen along the road starting from Serian. They do business by the side of the road since early morning, especially in Lachau Bazaar and Sungai Tengang.

“As such, the safety of traders and buyers who stop to buy durian is very worrying as there are no road safety signs to be seen in the area.

“Therefore, for the safety of everyone, safety measures such as placing cones should be done,” he told Suara Sarawak, yesterday.

He explained that it is important so that durian lovers and other road users can know in advance that there is buying and selling activity going on ahead.

“In this case, community leaders and tribal leaders (KMKK) should play a role in advising the traders to prevent accidents.

“In addition to that, monitoring from the authorities is necessary. Precautions should be taken seriously,” he said.

On top of this, Abang Zulkifli added that the good road conditions prompted drivers to drive vehicles at high speed.

“During this monsoon season, driving at such a speed is dangerous as it causes the road to become slippery,” he said.
