Bidayuh Mystique Festival begins tomorrow

KUCHING: A three-day cultural event called the Bidayuh Mystique Festival (BMF 2022) is now underway at the Parish Hall of St Paul Bunuk Church, Jalan Borneo Heights.

The festivities will last until Sunday (July 31).

Segu Bunuk Penrissen Association (PSBP) in a statement today said several activities have been lined up for the festival which includes Bidayuh Traditional Dance Competition, Poco-Poco Dance Competition, Dayung Remus Bidayuh Mystique Competition and Bidayuh Traditional Food Cooking Competition.

Guest of honour, the state Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, will officiate at the traditional dance competition that will see four groups in contention.

Cash prizes of RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM800 and certificates are up for grabs while RM200 and a certificate will used to console the other contestants.

Audiences will be entertained by Pemuzik Pinanak Sentah Group and guest singers, Justina Pereira, Marshall Enric and Paul Kadun.

Tomorrow, 10 Bidayuh beauties from Padawan, Serian and Bau will vie for the title of Dayung Remus Bidayuh Mystique.

Federal Deputy Tourism, Art and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Santhara J.P. will officiate at the festival and several Bidayuh singers, including Rozzie Mila and Claudia Geres, will perform on the same night.

The top three winners will bring home cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,500 and RM1,000 for the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. Also, they will each be given a trophy, sash, certificate and other gifts. RM100 and a certificate each will be given as consolations to other participants as well.

A food cooking competition which will be held on Sunday (July 31) has received good response with 20 participants competing. Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Malaysia Datuk Willie Mongin will officiate at the event.

Cash prizes of RM500, RM300 and RM200 and certificates will be given to the winners while RM100 and a certificate will be given as consolation prizes.

Aside from the various competitions, booths have also been set up for food and drinks hawkers as well as exhibitions by various government departments and agencies.

Free health screening is also provided for festival goers.
