LUNDU: Federal Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri is counting on a bigger budget allocation to, among others, set up a children’s department to especially care for the welfare of children.

She said for the ministry to focus on managing programmes for children, it would be necessary to increase staff and also enhance their capabilities.

Nancy on Saturday said her ministry aimed to better tackle cases of abused and abandoned children.

Towards this end is optimistic more money will be allocated to fund family-oriented programmes under Budget 2023 which will be re-tabled by the new federal government on Feb 24.

Noting that the ministry had received an allocation of RM3.4b during the previous budget presentation in October last year, she said welfare matters accounted for 70 per cent of it.

As such, she is positive the Finance Ministry will give her ministry more as she focuses on enhancing the efficiency of the services delivered by her ministry.
