KUCHING: The late Datuk Sri Ambrose Blikau Enturan was a mentor, leader, brother and a father figure to his brother-in-law Petrus Igat Mathias.

Petrus

Petrus, a political secretary to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, described Blikau as a mentor, and recalls Blikau’s advice to work hard, prioritise family and earn respect from those around him.

“His advice (to me) was firstly to take care of my family, and to improve ourselves, pray to God and help people. However he allowed us to make our own decisions.

“He also told to us stay relevant because only when we stay relevant, would people recognise and respect you and the rewards will come, that’s why people respected him,” he told New Sarawak Tribune at a wake service at Blikau’s residence in Tabuan Dusun here yesterday (Sept 10).

Petrus, who is the brother of Blikau’s wife Datin Sri Marie Therese Mathias, said Blikau was the family’s strength and pillar, and expressed gratitude for Blikau’s guidance in business and politics.

“He is our inspiration, he always tells us to be good, never get things the easy way and to always earn it.

“He was not only a brother-in-law, not only a leader but also a brother, and a father to us all,” said Petrus who shares a close relationship with Blikau.

The wake service attended by close family and friends began around 8.30 pm and ended around 10 pm.

The prayer was led by Gregory Gerasi from St Ann Catholic Church Kota Padawan.

Among those who attended the wake service were National Unity Minister and Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang and Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong.

Blikau, 70, passed away on Sept 9 at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre at 8.05 am due to a lung infection.

He served as an assemblyman of Katibas for more than nine years, between 1979 and 1987 and between 1991 and 2021.

The funeral service will be held at St Joseph’s Cathedral at 10 am today, followed by burial at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Bau.
