Blood bank of SGH collects 23,745 pints

KUCHING: The blood bank of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) has collected a total of 23,745 pints comprising 15,483 pints from male donors and 8,262 pints from female donors so far this year.

According to chairman of Blood Donors Recruitment Services Sub-Committee, John Jong

blood donation certificates were presented to 3,226 donors, as an individual who accumulated of 5 pints to 190 pints each.

He said ten trophies were also presented to winners of the blood donation competition from government departments, corporations, associations and religious bodies and one award to the lady donor with the highest pints accumulated.

“In 2022, SGH blood bank collected 23,745 pints, representing a 9.2 per cent increase over 21,735 pints in 2021.

“Meanwhile, Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) recorded 4,256 pints as first-time donors showing an increase of 4 per cent from 4,191 pints in 2021.

“Furthermore, in 2023, I have confidence our joint team can achieve an increase of 12 per cent over 2022 in the region of over 26,000 pints,” he said during the Blood Donor Awards Presentation at MRCS Kuching Branch, today.

The Federation of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions Chinese Association, Youth Section Sarawak brought home five out of the 10 challenge trophies.

It won the Teo Aik Challenge Trophy for group from organisation/club/association with a collection of 2,506 pints of blood.

Tay Motors was awarded the Lam Siong Khan Challenge Trophy in the group category from corporations within the state with 1342 pints.

Meanwhile Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap contributed a grant of RM10,000 to the MRCS for the society activity in 2024.

He also launched the Run To Save Lives 4.0 that will be take place on June 23, next year at Kuching South City Hall (MBKS) Foyer, here at 6.30 am.

The opening date for registration of the event via online/manual was yesterday (Nov 25), and the closing date will be on May 15, 2024.

Run To Save Lives 4.0 posters provide full information of the event. Expected number of runners is 1,000 to come forward to support and to raise RM 100,000.00 to meet the operating cost of five core services such as blood donation recruitment services, first aid training for the public, natural disaster relief,  ambulance services and community care services.

Also present were chairperson of MRCS, Kuching Branch Datuk Dr Abdul Rauf Abang Zain and deputy chairperson of MRCS Kuching Branch Dr Chou Chii Ming.

Yap launches the Run to Save Lives 4.0 scheduled to take place on June 23, 2024.
