KUCHING: Kuching Love Book Association will be having their seventh Blood Donation Campaign at Aeroville Mall (First Floor) from 9 am to 2 pm at Friday (Feb 25).

Founder and chairperson of Kuching Love Book Association May Loo Hun Ing thanked the Blood Bank Sarawak General Hospital and Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Kuching Branch for their cooperation and the Aeroville Mall as the blood donation venue.

“Blood Donation Campaign 7.0 is in response to the Blood Bank Sarawak General Hospital to help solve the problem of insufficient blood stock.

“We hope that people from all walks of life will actively attend and support this meaningful blood donation event and help people in urgent need of blood.

“One donation of blood can save three lives,” May said in a press statement here yesterday.

She said according to the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Centre, different components in the blood would be separated during the blood processing process.

“After being tested for viruses and bacteria, they will be used to treat different diseases,” she added.

She said, therefore, a pack of blood (that contains red blood cells and white blood cells, platelets, plasma and coagulation factors and other components of blood), three or more patients can be treated.

“Anyone who weighs 45kg and over 18 years old is eligible to donate blood, while 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

“The whole blood donation process only takes five to thirty minutes, depending on the individual’s constitution. Those interested in donating shall ensure that they have at least five hours of sleep, eaten breakfast, and refrained from alcoholic beverages for eight hours the night before,” she said.

May added that the first 100 donors who successfully donate will receive a gratitude goodies bag which contains an eco bag, face towel, hand sanitizer, five kilograms of white rice, Milo, oat, Nestum, milk and biscuit.
