KUCHING: The body of a foreign crewman reported missing after he fell into the Sarawak River from the barge he was working on, has been found.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body belonging to Kyaw Khaint, 28, was discovered by rescuers around 11.45am, Thursday (Feb 9).

It was retrieved near a quarry, some 1.8km from the search control post.

The body was later handed over to the police to be taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post-mortem.

The search operation ended at 1.30pm.

On Wednesday (Feb 8), it was reported that Kyaw was working with two locals on the barge near the Hock Seng Lee wharf, Jalan Setia Raja here.

They were tying one of the ropes on the barge when it suddenly snapped and hit them.

One of the locals suffered a broken leg while the other sustained light injuries.

Both of them, aged 35 and 37, were given first aid at the scene before they were taken to SGH for further treatment.
