MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has deployed its Bombardier CL-415 aircraft to aid in extinguishing forest fires alongside the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) at Sungai Adong, near here, since Wednesday.

Director of the Miri Maritime Zone Captain Maritime Mohd Shafie Paing announced that the firefighting operation, initiated at 3 pm, began promptly upon the aircraft’s arrival.

“Utilising water bombing techniques, the aircraft targeted the fire head, deploying a total of 30,000 litres of water to combat the blaze.

“With an estimated affected area of 150 acres, sixty per cent of the fire has been successfully contained.

“This collaborative effort involved various government departments, agencies, and private companies in the Miri district, offering invaluable assistance in fire control and extinguishment,” he said.

Shafie emphasised the continuation of firefighting operations until the entire fire area is extinguished.

In view of the prevailing hot weather conditions, the public are urged to refrain from open burning activities.
