KUCHING: The local undergraduates’ digital and entrepreneurship skills to meet current and future job market demands can be strengthened through the organisation of the BeDigital Bootcamp in Sarawak.

The bootcamp, organised by PETRONAS, was held at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) with 50 conditional employment offers from PETRONAS and the BeDigital Bootcamp partners.

It was participated by 100 students from six local universities, namely UNIMAS, Swinburne University, Curtin University, the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), and Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus.

According to Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, this BeDigital Bootcamp is a transformative opportunity for the young graduates, empowering them with essential digital and entrepreneurial skills to rise above future job market demands.

“It goes beyond conventional learning, providing a dynamic and practical approach to acquiring relevant skills.

“The collaboration between PETRONAS and its hiring partners demonstrates an unwavering commitment to nurturing a digitally ready generation and contributes towards the state’s continued advancement in this digital age.

“I laud this initiative and encourage more corporations to collaborate in BeDigital Bootcamp and other similar meaningful efforts,” he said.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS senior vice president of Project Delivery and Technology Datuk Bacho Pilong said that the participating students were upskilled in several areas, including organising data, data visualisation, analytics, and data storytelling, aside from undergoing a ‘shark tank pitch’ to showcase their entrepreneurial and presentation skills.

“We believe BeDigital Bootcamp has enhanced the participants’ digital skills and increased their employability by enabling them to contribute in more dynamic and meaningful ways towards realising Sarawak’s energy transition ambitions,” he said during the closing ceremony of the bootcamp at the Hilton Hotel here yesterday (Aug 25).

To date, a total of 268 students from higher learning institutions in Sabah and Sarawak have benefited from four BeDigital Bootcamp cohorts.
