KUCHING: The man who fell from Darul Hana Bridge was trying to take his own life, said Kuching acting police chief Supt Ismail Mahmood when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune.

The victim aged 36 from Taman Delight in Miri, who is a businessman, is now conscious in the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and has been put on a 24-hour watch.

It was revealed that the victim had been struggling to keep his business since last year and had borrowed a great amount of money.

In order to avoid the debtors, he came here but his whereabouts was made known to the debtors who tried to collect their money.

The businessman was seen jumping off the bridge at Kuching Waterfront at about 9pm by members of the public who then rushed to his aid.

Fire and Rescue Services Department personnel later arrived at the scene and rushed the businessman to SGH.

The businessman regained consciousness yesterday and would be interviewed by the police when his condition stabilises.
