Cable thief caught within three hours

MIRI: In less than three hours after TM cables were reported stolen in Bekenu on Friday (Oct 2), police succeeded in arresting the theft suspect, a local man.

The suspected culprit, in his 40’s was detained by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Miri Task Force around 3pm in Kampung Pengkalan Lutong, here.

Led by Inspector Erwin Geoffry Ussan, the team made the arrest after receiving a public tip-off.

During the arrest, police also uncovered the stolen 800-metre TM cables estimated to be worth around RM20,000 being hidden inside a container unit.

According to preliminary investigation, the suspect had brought the stolen cables from Bekenu using a lorry before hiding it inside a container unit at Kampung Pengkalan Lutong.

The suspect was brought to the Miri central police station to help facilitate police investigation on the case.
