Centexs launches first digital training lab

KUCHING: Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) has successful launched their first-ever digital training lab, Centexs Technical, Digital and Heritage Integrated Complex yesterday.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was present during the launching ceremony.

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani said in transforming Sarawak into digital economy, Centexs plays an important role by providing quality education in digital training.

“With the upgrade of our facilities, Centexs will be able to produce more highly skilled people in the digital and technology field,” he said during the launching.

Morshidi who is also the Centexs chairman, said on the technical front, the centre inked an exclusive partnership with UK-based welding certification company, TWI Services, in April 28 last year.

He said Centexs is the only partner to train its welding courses or programmes in the oil and gas industry.

“With UK based certification, our graduates will gain global access in the work market,” he said.

Simultaneously, in July 2018, in line with the state’s aspiration to go digital, Centexs therefore collaborated with Huawei Malaysia to provide digital programmes and renovation of two digital labs.

“Twelve trainers were also sent to Shenzhen, China to undergo digital training.

“This smart partnership aims to prepare youths for the digital world and also contribute to the Sarawak’s digital economy,” he pointed out.

The impressive integrated complex was the joint efforts by the Sarawak government, Centexs, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Yayasan Sarawak and Huawei Malaysia.

The 8,000 square feet digital training lab is equipped with indoor and outdoor practical sites designed for digital infrastructure specialist programmes covering wireless, microwave, centre, telecom energy hardware installation.

The training lab will provide skills training with 80 percent hands-on focus with the use of latest Huawei equipment and Data Centre IT equipment.

Facilities at the complex also include training rooms, a cafeteria, hostel, multi-purpose hall, lecture theatres, pavilion, football field and futsal court.

Additionally, the training offers students a cloud-based learning platform, enabling them to access their learning materials and work anytime and anywhere.

On a cultural aspect and to revive the dying art of textiles, the centre also provides courses on making Malay songket and Keringam.
