KUCHING: A charity flea market for the ‘Charity Bundle Day and Kuching Culture Vol. 2’ event was held at Pasar Seni Jalan Haji Taha, here, yesterday.

The flea market dubbed Jualan Amal Pecah Guni was organised by Sukarelawan Jalanan and is the first of its kind to be held by the organisation.

According to Suria Adenan, the founder of Sukarelawan Jalanan, the aim of the charity flea market was to obtain funds for the organisation’s future programmes.

“We have received two tonnes of used clothing from our sponsors Wandy’s Bundle and Sekai Bundle Sdn Bhd and we expect to sell all of them by the end of the flea market which is at 10pm tonight,” she said.

Suria said all items were being sold for RM10 per plastic bag and customers would be able to fill the plastic bags themselves with any items available for sale.

The event started at 10am with a Pecah Guni ceremony by representatives from the organising team.

Suria hopes the event would also provide exposure to Pasar Seni Jalan Haji Taha and encourage the general public to visit the market there.

“People who stop by to visit the flea market would have the chance to discover the other markets and what Pasar Seni has to offer,” said Suria.

“We have a lot of plans with Pasar Seni Haji Taha for 2020, including organising another flea market here.”

Sukarelawan Jalanan currently has 250 members in Kuching and 100 members in Miri respectively and will organise similar events in both cities.
