KUCHING: A team of enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Sarawak conducted a check on the sales of cooking oil online at Matang here recently based on public complaints.

A KPDN spokesman said in a press statement here that eight enforcement officers successfully found 1,258 kg of cooking oil subsidised packets as well as one kg polybag all worth RM3,145.00 and seized the items for investigation purposes under Section 20 (1) of the Controlled Items Act 1961.

If found guilty, the offenders can be fined not more than RM2 million for the first offence and fined not more than RM5 million for the second offence. If the offender is not from any organisation, the fines will not more than RM1 million for the first offence or imprisonment not more than three years or both and fined not more than RM3 million for the second offence or jailed for five years or both.

As until March 28, 26,908 checks have been carried out on 433 cases and items worth a sum of RM6,156,160.91 seized with compounds worth RM307.558.00.

The spokesman added that 76 cases were under the Control Items Act 1961 with items worth RM6,122,870.27 seized.
