KUCHING: Over 60 Christian lawyers attended a special service at the St. Thomas’ Cathedral today (Feb 4), marking the beginning of the legal year 2023.

The service was intended to seek God’s blessing and guidance for the legal profession.

The attorneys dressed in their black robes and court attire during the one-hour special service, which began at 8am.

Lawyer Desmond Sahathevan explained that this is the third time the prayer service is held at St. Thomas’ Cathedral.

He added that the purpose of the ceremony was not just to give thanks to God but also to seek guidance for those practising law on how to act in a way that is morally upright and fair to both the public and the people the legal profession represents.

“We try to do it every year; the Catholics will have their Red Mass as well, which is scheduled to take place next week,” he said.

Reverend Canon Michael Woods delivered a sermon and gave the lawyers a yearlong blessing.

Also seen at the event was Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
