Civil servant fined RM1,800 for hurting sister-in-law

KUCHING: A civil servant was fined RM1,800 in default two months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court for causing hurt to his sister-in-law.

Sharir, 27, pleaded guilty to the charge which was read out by an interpreter before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt on the 27-year-old victim.

Upon conviction, Sharir can be jailed for up to one year or fined up to RM2,000 or both.

Based on the facts of the case, he allegedly committed the offence at his residence in Taman Jasmin, Jalan Depo, Petra Jaya, here at about 7.42 pm, on Nov 7, 2023.

According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the victim came to accused’s house to take her sister’s Schizophrenia medication.

However, Sharir refused to hand over the medicine until an argument broke out between them, which resulted in the accused slapping, kicking and punching the victim.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruises on her head, right elbow, and both knees.

The victim was then sent to the hospital for treatment before making a police report for further action.

Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented by a legal counsel.
