SERIAN: Last Dec 25 was a sad day for Benny Gree, 35, and his family when their home at Kampung Koran Empaneg here was destroyed in a fire.

The 4.15pm incident caused Benny, his wife, three children and his parents to squat at the village’s multi-purpose hall ever since.

Benny says the cause of the fire is still unknown as he is still waiting for the Fire Department’s report.

The damaged properties included a Ford Ranger four-wheel drive vehicle and all household items.

Family members receive the donation of food and necessities.

The plight of the family has caught the attention of the Padawan Adventure 4×4 Club, and has extended its charity outreach programme to assist the family.

Last Sunday, the family received a visit from club members led by president Marcelinus Meran, who came with essential goods and used clothing.

After the handing over of the assistance, the club members volunteered to assist  the family to carry their possessions to their cousin’s house.

Meran hoped the contributions would help to lighten the family’s burden.

Also present during the visit was village chief Dominic Ginai.

Meran said the objectives of the club were to embark on community outreach programme, participate in search and rescue activities by providing transportation, assist during emergencies and natural disasters by providing immediate transportation, whenever normal transportation service was unavailable.
