KUCHING: Higher learning institutions should consider collaborating with relevant industries towards developing skilled and innovative workforce.

Executive director of Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions Hallman Sabri said that collaboration aligns with the broader state agenda, linking Sarawak’s development goals with the vibrancy of a skilled workforce and dynamic industries.

“The significance of our collaboration lies in the mutual benefits we derive from it. Sarawak Skills gains exposure and relevance in the dynamic landscape of our industries.

“Industry partners, in turn, gain access to a skilled and adaptable talent pool, ensuring they stay at the forefront of innovation and competitiveness.

“This symbiotic relationship not only fuels economic growth but also fortifies the foundation of our shared success,” he said at the Sarawak Skills Appreciation Luncheonheld  at The Waterfront Hotel today (Jan 17).

The institution aims to collaborate closely with the State Government, focusing on a multipronged approach to transform Sarawak’s economic and digital landscape. Integration of Industry Revolution 4.0 and Green Energy Technologies into technical curricula aligns with the post-COVID-19 development strategy.

The event saw the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mindsights Sdn. Bhd., Labtech International, and WFM Tabaruk Abadi Sdn Bhd. Additionally, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed with Neuto Energy Sdn. Bhd. and iTrain ASIA Pte. Ltd. (Singapore).

Furthermore it was announced that Sarawak Skills is now an Approved Training Provider for Recognition of Prior Achievement (APA).

The luncheon also witnessed the presentation of certificates, welcoming two new members, X Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) and OCIM Sdn. Bhd.

In a similar development, Hallman revealed that the institution plans to extend its engagement to China, specifically in the area of hydrogen supply chain skills. Ten trainers will participate in knowledge and skills training with special focus on hydrogen competency.
