KUCHING: Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Tan Kai (pic) asked DAP Sarawak, especially Domestic Trade and Consumerism Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen, to come clean on the eight Approved Permits (APs) for the import of sugar.

Tan who held a last minute press conference in a coffee shop said he was not happy with DAP which always preached about transparency but was not doing it themselves.

“In Penang they have this Competency, Accountability, and Transparency (CAT) system but it was only in words and not action,” he said.

In the past, there were only two companies that were monopolising the sugar market and recently, Chong announced that they are open to more permit holders.

Tan Kai then questioned why the DAP was not released the names of the eight companies.

“Do they have something to hide? I have asked them since the announcement was made last month but there was no response from DAP,” he said.

He also took Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong to task for her statement, whereby she allegedly said that he (Tan Kai) is against a liberalisation policy.

“She got my message wrong and tried to divert attention from announcing the AP holders. I am all for open market but I just want to know who,” said Tan Kai.

He said now that DAP is part of the government, it should be transparent as it has always claimed to be.
