KUCHING: A historic three-day photo exhibition under the theme ‘Together We Build a Better Future’ will open tomorrow (November 10) at the city’s popular Boulevard Shopping Mall on 2nd Floor, New Wing (near DIY).

The event, jointly organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, the Malaysia-China Culture and Arts Association, Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching and the Association of Chinese Culture and Art of Kuching, will showcase more than 200 valuable historic photos recording the great changes in Chinese people’s lives brought about by the rapid, tremendous development since China’s Reform and Opening-up from 1978, and retracing the beneficial cooperation between China and Malaysia over the past four decades.

The photo show, the first of its kind by the China Consulate-General in Kuching since its establishment in the state capital 24 years ago, will be open from November 10 (Saturday) to November 12 (Monday). Admission is free and the viewing hours are from 10.30am to 9.00pm during the three days.

The China Consulate-General extends its warm invitations to everyone to visit the exhibition. All the photos have English descriptions.

China People’s Republic which was founded in 1949 after years of internal conflicts and external ravages is today the world’s largest economy with a massive 1.4-billion population.

Malaysia, the first Asean nation to officially recognize China in 1974, has maintained a very warm, uninterrupted relationship with Beijing over the past 44 years in all the fields including diplomacy, trade, education and culture.

Sarawak whose ties to China go back a few hundred years since the Chinese immigrants landed here in the early 1800s has seen the relationship getting closer especially in recent years.

China investors and entrepreneurs have increasingly made their presence felt in Sarawak by becoming the state’s biggest foreign investors, already making over RM120b investments by 2017.

There are two China banks in Kuching – the Bank of China (since 2013) and ICBC Bank (also since 2013). The state’s several hydropower dams like the Bakun and Murum, and the Balingian Coal-Fired Power Plant all bear the mark of China’s construction and technology expertise.
