KUCHING: The state government  is expected to introduce its own airline service next year.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said he already has a model on how to have direct connectivity between the state and cities of the world.

“We will not be owning the aircraft. It is not airline per say because that is too big. But something like a nucleus operating air service,” he told reporters when met after the launch of Sheda Property Expo 2019 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), yesterday.

He also revealed that he is looking at leasing three aircrafts and the state government will control the operation of the air service.

When asked if the state government is looking at MASwings, he said he would announce when the time comes.

“We are still negotiating and it is not fair to reveal the details now.”

He added that the ART route in Kuching would be done in other cities in phases and hoped that by 2030, Sarawak would be a smart city once the modern public transportation are in place.
