MIRI: Two local men, with extensive criminal records, were detained for allegedly stealing a 20-foot freight shipping container containing construction tools worth RM6,000 from a site along the Lutong-Kuala Baram Road.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the duo, aged 57 and 46 years were apprehended by a police task force during an operation code named ‘Ops Pintu’ around 4.40pm on Saturday.

During the arrest, police also found construction equipments including several pieces of polyvinyl chloride pipes (PVC), iron bars, seven fibre hand rails and 21 units of U-steel channel.

It is believed that the duo had gone into the construction site and carted away the container.

The arrest was made following a police report lodged by the owner who discovered that the container was missing on July 3.
