MIRI: General Operations Force (GOF) 12th Battalion seized contraband alcohol and cigarettes worth RM434,083.40 in two separate raids in Senadin here during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Libas’.
In a statement on Wednesday (Feb 17), GOF 12th Battalion commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng said during Tuesday’s (Feb 16) raids on two houses, a local man aged 25 was also detained.
The first raid was done at a house in Jalan Maigold, Taman Desa Senadin Phase 2C, while the second raid was conducted on a house in Jalan Sena, Desa Senadin Phase 4.
In the first location, the GOF team seized 24 boxes of beer, 24 bottles of liquor and 83,120 sticks of cigarettes, all valued at RM70,466.40.
They confiscated 340,200 sticks of cigarettes, 219 boxes of beer and 359 boxes of liquor, all worth RM363,617, at the second location.
It was believed that both houses were used as storage facilities for the contraband alcohol and cigarettes before distribution.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
