MUKAH: The Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) along with Community Leaders and Tribal Leaders (KMKK) are called upon to spearhead development efforts in their respective areas.

Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar said JKKKs and KMKKs also need to ensure that representatives of the people serve their areas for longer tenures.

“We don’t want people’s representatives to hold only one term, we want more than that.

“Because of that, leaders at grassroots level need to play a role in their respective areas.”

Asfia was speaking at the donation presentation ceremony for KMKKs in Tellian State Legislative Assembly (DUN), at Kingwood Hotel here, today.

He said Mukah is a stronghold for Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“Not only that, this area is very special because it has produced great leaders for Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Royston said, currently people prefer to spread the word about what is happening in their respective areas without researching the truth.

“Viral is not the right way and method even though it is fast to convey to the public.

“This is because it can give rise to various interpretations and bad assumptions to outsiders.

“If you want to make a complaint, do it in the right way and channel.

“Therefore, leaders at the grassroots level should always be ready to receive complaints and views from the people to be resolved.”

He added, if unable to solve the complaint and problem, refer to a higher level that can help do so.

Meanwhile, a total of 101 people from KMKK DUN Tellian in Mukah and Dalat districts consisting of Community Leaders, Kapitan, Village Head and Tuai Rumah received donations in the event.

Also present was acting Mukah District officer Peleadzman Ahip.
