Contraband liquor worth RM42,940 seized

The contraband liquor stocked in the premises being inspected by two enforcement officials.

SIBU: The marine police (PPM) here and Kuching marine intelligence unit have seized contraband liquor worth RM42,940 during a raid at a premises in Sibu Jaya Commercial Centre here last Thursday.

According to Sarawak PPM Region 5 Commander ACP Shamsol Kassim, the raid was conducted around 2.15pm. It found a local man in his 40s inside the premises.

“Investigation results found 300 boxes of Pure Blonde liquor (355ML x 24 bottles) and 40 boxes of Tsingtao Pure Draft beer (330 ML x 24 tins) without Customs duty, properly placed in a corner at the back of the store in the premises.

“All items were inspected and found to have no verification document from the Customs Department,” he said in a statement today.

All items and the man were handed over to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Sibu district police for further action.

The case is investigated under Section 135(1)(d) Customs Act 1967.
