LUNDU: Solid cooperation between the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) and the Sarawak government is needed to speed up the process of land surveying for Native Customary Rights (NCR) lands in Bidayuh areas.

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) quoted Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang as saying he was aware of the Land and Survey Department’s ability to carry out customary land surveying throughout Sarawak.

“Therefore, cooperation with DBNA is very necessary to ensure the effort can be carried out in a shorter period of time,” he said at the Lundu Branch DBNA dinner at the DBNA Hall here, recently.

Earlier, DBNA President Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik said the customary land documentation process needs to be prioritised in 2023 in addition to ensuring the priority of education and the preservation of traditions.

Ik Pahon who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) said the establishment of a new agency like GKCDA is to ensure the Kuching Division, especially the Bidayuh area here, can be developed.

“Through the GKCDA initiative and cooperation with local representatives, especially the Opar constituency, the necessary development is expected to be implemented so that the Opar constituency becomes more advanced and can move along with other areas,” he told.

Also present were the Political Secretary to the Premier, Niponi Undek and the Chairman of DBNA Lundu Branch, Suimi Kimseng.
