KOTA SAMARAHAN: The establishment of the Innovative Bumiputera Sarawak Entrepreneur Cooperative (KIUB) Sarawak Berhad is set to strengthen the development of the rural economy and entrepreneurs.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang commended KIUB for its efforts in generating potential for change in the surrounding communities.

She said the establishment of the KIUB Summer Mall Ramadan Bazaar 2023 for instance ensures KIUB is empowered.

“The Ramadan Bazaar is not an easy matter and requires hard work from all parties, including infrastructure and management commitment.

“KIUB has been in existence since last December and this bazaar is their second project, and an upcoming project will be developed with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM),” she said.

Rubiah who is Kota Samarahan MP said this at the opening of the Innovative Bumiputera Sarawak Entrepreneur Cooperative and KIUB Summer Mall Ramadan Bazaar 2023 at the Summer Mall on Saturday (March 25).

“My hope is that KIUB will provide good, high-quality and safe food for visitors.

“We know that the Ramadan Bazaar is a focal point, and entrepreneurs, whether in urban or rural areas, should take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their spirit,” she added.

In another development, she emphasised that her ministry will establish a body through cooperatives to support entrepreneurs who wish to advance with training and exposure.

She also anticipated that Samarahan would turn out successful businesspeople who were genuinely eager, devoted, and determined to pursue such objectives.

“My hope is to start by identifying successful entrepreneurs in Samarahan. Because I have a key performance indicator (KPI) for the next five years, I aim to create 10 highly successful entrepreneurs whose products are not limited to Samarahan or Sarawak but could potentially be at an international level,” she asserted.

Meanwhile, KIUB Chairman Saidi Rasemi said that the KIUB Ramadan Bazaar intended to feature 100 vendors, however 20 of applications were turned down owing to technological issues.
