Cops hunting motorcycle thieves, burglary gangs

Two police operations carried out yesterday morning at Kampung Samariang Pinggir and Taman Malihah.

KUCHING: Four individuals involved in a series of motorcycle thefts and burglaries around Kuching area, were arrested during a police operation at Kampung Samariang Pinggir and Taman Malihah yesterday.

According to Padawan OCPD Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the operation involved 22 police personnel from the Sarawak Police Contingent Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Padawan CID, Kota Samarahan CID, Padawan Task Force and Kuching CID from 3am until 5.30am.

“Both operations—Op Pintu and Op Lejang Bersepadu—were conducted to track the motorcycle theft and house-breaking groups around Kuching and Padawan.

“The first arrests were made on two suspects aged 27 and 35, who were involved in the disposal of seven stolen motorcycles.

“The team later arrested two male suspects aged 22 and 44, who were involved in nine housebreaking cases in Malihah Matang,” he said in a statement.

Aidil added that among the items was a Modenas Kriss motorcycle that was reported missing at the Padungan Police Station.

Following that, he noted, efforts to detect more suspects in both groups were still ongoing.

“Investigations revealed that the motorcycle theft group was made up of four individuals, two of whom have been detained, while a burglary group with three more suspects is still at large,” he stated.

All the suspects are being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
