KUCHING: The police are all geared up for the Jepak state by-election, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said today.
“We have already made preparations in terms of manpower. We have also carried out our plannings to ensure this by-election goes smoothly,” he told a press conference today.
However, the police have yet to decide on the number of personnel to be assigned to Jepak, and a decision will be made this week, he said.
Earlier today, the Election Commission (EC) set Nov 4 as the polling day for the Jepak by-election.
EC deputy chairman Dr Azmi Sharom said the nomination of candidates for the by-election will be held on Oct 21, while early voting is set for Oct 31.
The by-election is forced by the death of its incumbent, Datuk Talib Zulpilip, 72, on Sept 15, due to kidney complications.
“The campaigning for the by-election will run for 14 days, from the start of the nomination day until 11.59 pm on Nov 3,” Mohd Azman said after chairing a special meeting on the by-election at Menara SPR in Putrajaya today.
The late Talib, a former minister in the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman), served as Jepak assemblyman for six terms since 1996.
