Council distributes dates and cash

KUCHING: The Kuching City South Council (MBKS) has distributed boxes of dates to 17 mosques and surau as well as financial aid to 150 children from needy families within the council areas in conjunction with the Ramadan month.

Present to hand over dates and cash at the Darul Akhirat Surau, Kampung Lumba Kuda today (May 1). were MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, deputy mayor Hilmi Othman, Councillor Sufian Ateng, Councillor Bong Lian Huan and Tay Motor Sdn Bhd’s managing director Aaron Tay.

Wee also switched on the decorative lights at the surau to symbolise the handover ceremony.

The council has contributed decorative lights to 17 mosques and surau, namely Darul Akhirat Surau in Lumba Kuda, Darussalam Surau (Tabuan Melayu), Darul Barakah Mosque (BDC), Darul Falah Mosque (Kampung Tabuan Haji Drahman), Wan Alwi Mosque (Tabuan Jaya), Darussaadah Mosque (Tabuan Melayu), Darul Ittihad Mosque (Kenyalang Park), Darul Ibadah Suray (Jalan Mendu), Darul Hidayah Surau (Kampung Sungai Periuk), Nurul Hidayah Surau (Kampung Cemerlang), Darul Salihin Surau (Tabuan Tengah), Darul Hajat Surau (Tabuan Hilir), Darul Hassanah Surau (Tabuan Lot Dani), Darul Cemerlang Surau (Tabuan Cemerlang), Darul Ibadah Surau (Kampung Sri Maimunah), Al Mukhalis Surau (Kampung Stutong Melayu) and Darul Falah Surau (Tabuan Park Flat).

Wee also reminded the public to follow strictly the Covid-19 standard of operating procedures (SOPs) laid by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) as the fight against the virus was not over yet.

“Always wear a face mask, wash your hands regularly with soap or hand sanitiser, avoid handshakes, avoid crowded areas, avoid any big gatherings, be aware of the physical distancing and keep yourself and your family safe,” he said.

The mayor also wished all Muslim friends who would be celebrating the festival “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri” in advance.
