SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) hosted a thanksgiving dinner in conjunction with the successful holding of its Selangau Carnival 2023, at a leading hotel here on Tuesday.

The carnival was held at Selangau Waterfront, about 74 km away from here, from July 27 to 29.

SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai expressed his gratitude to all those involved, including sponsors and others who had helped in one way or another to ensure the great success of the event.

He was confident such an event would be continued next year and will be organised at a much grandeur scale as a tourism attraction.

Among others, the event was also aimed at assisting the community in Selangau district in terms of economy and to supplement their income as a total of 149 stalls were set up.

The highlight of the carnival which was the Selangau Rafting Challenge had attracted 200 participants.

Besides, it also featured a host of other activities such as karaoke, futsal, blowpipe, ‘Battle of the Band’ as well as Keling and Kumang competitions.

Among those present at the dinner reception were Selangau District Officer Inting Nyami, SRDC’s secretary Ng Siang Wei and the event’s organising chairman Cr. Henry Kanyan.
