MIRI: Village development and security committees (JKKK), tuai rumah and ketua kaum are grassroots entities that play a crucial role in community-level development, says Datuk Majang Renggi.
“Thus, the state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue to empower them to further develop the rural areas,” disclosed the Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development II (Port Development).
“As long as they (JKKK, tuai rumah and ketua kaum) have a clear vision and mission while discharging their duties, they will be able to help the state government change the lives of rural folk.”
Majang added that the capabilities of JKKK, tuai rumah or ketua kaum could be measured by their ability to secure development projects for their respective areas.
He was speaking at the closing of a two-day management skills programme for Niah and Suai on Tuesday (Feb 8). A total of 226 tuai rumah took part.
“Thus, it is crucial for JKKK, tuai rumah and ketua kaum to always enhance their administrative and management skills.”
To further strengthen their roles, Majang said they needed to establish bureaus in their respective villages or longhouses.
“These bureaus are aimed at helping JKKK collect village or longhouse data. This kind of information is important and needed from time to time by government agencies to ensure that such data can be easily obtained if required.”
Also present was the programme’s organising chairman, Tuai Rumah Boniface Bada.
