BAU: The Bidayuh Cultural Centre (BCC) stands as the emblem of the Bidayuh community in the Bau district.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the establishment of BCC in the district is indeed appropriate as 70 per cent of the population there is Bidayuh.

“We understand that it was built on an area of 1.27 acres and this was the inspiration of Bidayuh leaders in Bau including the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).

“We have heard the briefing earlier that the construction will take 24 months and all the facilities that are already there later will be able to be used by a total of 500 people,” he said.

He said this during the officiating ceremony for the construction project of the BCC in Jalan Jambusan here, recently.

In the meantime, he hopes that when the building is completed, it will be able to benefit the residents of Bau district to carry out social, cultural, customs and traditional activities besides for conventions or meetings.

“BCC is a tourism attraction that includes all the variations of Bidayuh traditions such as costumes and way of life, not only Bidayuh Bau but also Bidayuh from other areas.

“That’s why I believe we don’t need another BCC in Serian, we don’t want too many but if any, we want it to be something different,” he said.
