KUCHING:  The  Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) is introducing Malay cultural art performances to the younger generation in the hope of reviving them.

MSS’ Chief Executive Officer Sharkawi Amit said starting this year, several activities had been held in villages in the Satok areas starting from Kampung Bintangor Besar, Kampung Sungai Lajim, Kampung Masjid and Kampung Patinggan.

“Among the activities featured are “hadrah” performances, “zapin” dances, karaoke competitions and music performances. These activities have brought new life to the villages.”

He was interviewed at a cultural arts performance organised by the council at Padang Slpas yesterday.

He explained such activities would continue in the future and the villages would take turns to showcase their cultural arts every Friday and Saturday.
