KUCHING: Civil servants are told to inculcate a culture of digitalisation to emulate Sarawak’s vision of achieving a developed digital economy.

Deputy State Secretary, Datuk Hii Chang Kee said civil servants needed to be an important bringer of information to the public in efforts to support Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s aspiration to make Sarawak an advanced state by 2030.

He added that the civil service in Sarawak needed to play an important role in providing an efficient and systemic delivery of the government’s initiatives to the public.

Noting further, Hii also urged civil servants to work together and cooperate with the different government agencies available to understand their various roles.

“This will enable us as civil servants to respond to various complaints and feedbacks from the public and this will ensure that we will be able to reach an advanced and prosperous state by 2030,” he said this in his speech before officiating at the ‘Jerayawara Ukas Bersama Rakyat 2023’ programme at Boulevard Shopping Mall here yesterday (Oct 8).

Following that, he added that the world has become a borderless world through the internet and social media and, therefore, civil servants and community leaders that were present are to take note of Sarawak’s services.

“The state government has provided many services for the public, so we, as civil servants, need to know what are the services and also know what are the procedures of these services to assist the community and members of the public,” he added.

During the ‘Jerayawara Ukas Bersama Rakyat 2023’ programme, seven booths were stationed at the event, namely – Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVVS), Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS), Sarawak Health Department, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia (MCMC) Sarawak, Sarawak Civil Service Digitalisation Unit, Economic Planning Unit (EPU), and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).
