MIRI: The Student Council of Curtin University (Curtin Malaysia) recently organised a two-day Curtin Club Carnival, showcasing a diverse array of student clubs to cater to various interests on campus.

The event serves as a pivotal platform for new students to explore and engage with the dynamic campus community, as well as an opportunity for current students to discover new interests and further enrich their university experience.

“For new students, the Club Carnival signifies more than just a showcase; it is a gateway to assimilating into the vibrant fabric of campus life.

“By offering a glimpse into the myriad opportunities for involvement, the fair empowers newcomers to carve their niche within the university community from the outset. It is not merely about finding a club but about finding a sense of belonging and purpose.

“Beyond catering to newcomers, the Club Carnival is also frequented by current students seeking to enrich their university journey. For them, it serves as a catalyst for exploration, encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones, discover new interests, and forge meaningful connections,” Curtin Malaysia said.

At the event’s opening ceremony, Curtin Malaysia deputy pro vice-chancellor Professor Vincent Lee commended the Student Council and participating student clubs for the spectacular Back to the 90s-themed event.

“This Club Carnival serves as a cornerstone event that fosters a vibrant campus community by providing students with a platform to explore diverse interests, cultivate leadership skills, and expand social networks,” he said.

Meanwhile, Miri City councillor Kelvin Chia, who represented guest of honour Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting, at the event’s closing ceremony, noted how an active campus life and fostering lifelong friendships should be an integral part of each student’s university experience as it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be cherished always.

He also encouraged students from different faculties and fields of study to interact and learn from each other through involvement in the different clubs.
