PARIT BUNTAR: The Perak state government has urged residents especially in the Kerian district to cut down trees, including coconut trees, belonging to them, which are near to roads.

State Public Utilities, Infrastructure, Agriculture and Plantation Committee chairman Abdul Yunus Jamhari said cutting these trees is necessary because they pose danger to people.

“I also plan to set up a committee at the Krian district level comprising village heads, district office and the fire and rescue department to cut down the trees including coconut trees which pose a danger to the people especially in the Kuala Kurau state assembly constituency,” he told the media at the Updating Cost of Living Aid (BSH) programme at the Tanjung Piandang JKKK hall near here today.

Abdul Yunus said, for starters, 100 coconut trees which have been identified as posing a danger will be felled after getting the permission of their respective owners through the committee.

“Residents should also not have the hands-off attitude and must take action themselves to get rid of trees which are dangerous to the public by hiring people to fell trees leaning towards roads,’’ he said.
