KUCHING: Former Batu Lintang assemblyman Voon Lee Shan (pic) has reportedly joined Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) as its deputy president, the Dayak Daily news portal reported yesterday.
Voon was the DAP assemblyman from 2006 to 2011 when he defeated incumbent SUPP’s heavyweight Chan Seng Khai.
He garnered 8,805 votes to win with a 3,406-vote majority.
Internal party disputes in 2010 led to Voon’s suspension following allegations of attempts by him to dislodge the late Bukit Assek assemblyman Wong Ho Leng as state party chairman.
Voon, a lawyer by profession and a former police officer, was not fielded in the 2011 state polls after DAP swapped Batu Lintang for Padungan with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). Voon kept a low profile after that.
PBK which was registered on Aug 28, 2014 is currently headed by Yu Chin Liik.
Meanwhile, sources close to SUPP said disgruntled party members from the central region are planning to join PBK.
“Discussions are ongoing and it’s a matter of time for these members will join PBK,” the sources said.
