KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin has claimed that Democratic Action Party (DAP) is losing its political clout in Sarawak because of all the broken promises during Pakatan Haparan’s (PH) 22-month reign in governance.

He said that Sarawakians are calm and relaxed most of the time but when DAP worked against Sarawak, it hurt their support base, Sarawakians became visibly angry.

“As voting day gets nearer SUPP Kota Sentosa can report that the momentum for an upset win against the 15-year DAP representation is real and present because the people realised that DAP conned Sarawakians for the purpose of ascending to power and betrayed that trust given to them as soon as they attained government.

“While the people have seen Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Stampin candidate, Lo Khere Chiang on the ground and solving issues within his first five years it has also dawned on to them that much more could have been done for the people should the DAP candidate had done some work for the people, especially since they have been given the mandate for the last 15 years,” he said in a statement.

Adding further, he said that in terms of leadership, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is ever popular because of his people-centric policies and vision for Sarawak can be trusted and unlike DAP which has leaders awaiting court dates, GPS has working leaders who prove their worth daily and this contrast in leadership holds GPS in good stead.

He also pointed out that even the Chinese voters were upset when the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) was not recognised by DAP and worse when funding was cut from the only Chinese owned university, Tunku Abdul Rahman University (TAR), which has helped thousands of poor Chinese students throughout the years.

“In Sarawak, GPS recognises UEC and Chinese education receives the highest government funding in Malaysia.
“We call upon all supporters to be vigilant and make sure all of our people go out and vote because although the sentiment is good we must not take anything for granted,

“At the end of the day the team with more votes win, so make sure we get our voters to the polling booth as early as possible to avoid long lines at the end of the day when typically there is a rush,” he stressed.
