KUCHING: Governance of a country should not be limited to mere fund allocations, it should also be about bringing positive changes and progress, said Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Central assistant secretary Liew Leong Yee.

Expressing confusion over the recent attacks by Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, Liew questioned why Chong had not disclosed the developments and allocations that his party members had secured for the people of Sarawak.

Highlighting the unresolved issues in urban areas of Kuching such as Padungan, Batu Lintang, and Pending, which fall under Chong’s coalition (DAP), Liew pointed out that the people would prefer to see concrete contributions from the DAP leader in these constituencies.

“DAP is now part of the ruling coalition. If DAP still intends to shift blame to the Sarawak GPS government, it would be more straightforward to return the seats to representatives from GPS and let them make the necessary changes,” he said in a statement recently.

Liew, who is also the SUPP Batu Lintang Branch Youth chief, stressed that the appropriate platform for DAP to represent people in his constituency is within Parliamentary or State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, where they engage in debates and seek answers.

On the other hand, he criticised opposition members for wasting time in parliamentary bickering, leading to a loss of focus on essential issues.

Adding on, he said Sarawak is currently experiencing a positive development trend, and the people yearn for true statesmanship rather than mere politicians.

“The people need representatives who articulate constructive ideas instead of petty arguments,” he said.
