MIRI: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew is concerned about increased criminal activities, especially armed robberies in the city, and stressed the need for swift and decisive action to ensure the safety of the community.

Ting, who is the Piasau assemblyman, expressed his concerns during a courtesy call on Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu at the Miri police headquarters yesterday (Mar 25). Also present was Miri district deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol.

Alexon assured Ting that the police department was actively investigating the cases and working diligently to catch the perpetrators.

On March 20, 21 and 24, police were alerted to three separate reports of armed robberies at Hilltop Garden, Ocean Park and Permyjaya  residential areas where all victims were tied up during the intrusions.

The incidents have raised concern among the local community, prompting authorities to increase surveillance and patrols in the affected neighbourhoods.

“The police are working diligently to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of residents in Miri. We urge anyone with information related to these crimes to come forward and assist in the investigation.

“The safety and security of our residents is our top priority, and we are committed to taking swift action to solve these incidents,” said Alexson.

Ting, on the other hand,  requested that the police increase patrols in residential areas to help curb the recent surge in armed robberies.

“It is imperative to increase police patrol at residential areas in order to curb any potential of armed robbery. By implementing a stronger police presence, we can deter criminals and ensure the safety and security of our communities,” Ting said.

He said regular patrols in residential neighbourhoods will not only help prevent armed robberies but also provide reassurance to residents.
