SERIAN: Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Ir Aidel Lariwoo has expressed hope that the federal government would allocate more funds for the development of the transborder route between Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
He stated that the suggestion for additional funding had been brought to the attention of the federal government, especially considering the upcoming relocation of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan.
“We recognise the potential and the benefits it will bring to Sarawak, hence our plans to establish a connecting route between Sarawak and Kalimantan,” he explained.
“The proposed transborder route is planned to extend from Tebedu to the northern part of Sarawak, but its implementation is contingent upon the availability and approval of the required funding.
“While we await the federal government’s assessment of the project, we remain optimistic that it will be implemented in the near future,” he said at a press conference held during his site visit to assess the progress of various infrastructure projects here on Monday (June 19).
Aidel further revealed that the development of coastal routes between Sarawak and Kalimantan is also being considered for the future.
“I firmly believe that this forthcoming route will enhance connectivity between several cities in Sarawak, thereby benefiting us economically.”
