Deputy Premier promises help rebuilding homes

KUCHING: The state government will provide assistance to homeowners for the swift reconstruction of their houses following the recent fire incident, according to Deputy Premier Datuk Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The incident, which occurred on Monday at RPR Batu Kawa, tragically claimed the life of a six-year-old boy and and affected five houses.

In a statement today (Aug 29), Dr Sim said the need for authorities to promptly determine the cause of the incident. This will help in planning for the future and preventing similar incidents from happening again.

He also stressed the importance of conducting regular checks on power lines and educating people about what to do in case of fire.

At the time of the incident, Dr Sim was chairing a department meeting. As soon as he was informed about the incident, he rushed to the scene where he was briefed by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

He provided financial assistance to the affected families and made necessary arrangements.

Additionally, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai along with the staff from Batu Kawa Service Centre, quickly responded to the incident.

They assisted in organising various tasks, including working with local community leaders to support the fire victims.

The victims are currently being accommodated at a nearby community hall and service centre. The welfare department and Red Crescent Society are collaborating to meet their other needs.
