SARAWAKIANS are urged to stay focused and not be swayed by the ever-changing political landscape in West Malaysia.
Referring to the phrase ‘Dulu Lawan, Kini Kawan’ (enemies-turned-friends), Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the need to move forward without constant apologies from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Malaysia, as its party in Sarawak still opposes the ruling government.
“We don’t want DAP Malaysia to keep apologising to Sarawak because DAP Sarawak is still committed to its opposition stance. Sarawak should not disobey its West Malaysia bosses,” Dr Sim said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
Instead, Dr Sim, who is also the president of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), emphasised the importance of engaging in meaningful negotiations with the Unity Government and Parliament. He outlined key areas that require attention, such as Health Autonomy, Education Autonomy, one-third MPs from Sabah and Sarawak, greater share of Sarawak’s financial taxation, and addressing outstanding issues under MA63 and Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) report, part of Malaysia Constitution in 2021.
