DG: 40 Bomba officers sacked annually

KOTA SAMARAHAN: About 40 officers of Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) are sacked or fired from their jobs annually.

This was stated by Director General Fire and Rescue Department, Datuk Wira Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim during a press conference after officiating the closing ceremony of State Level ‘Integrity Empowerment Forum 2017’ at Auditorium, National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), Kota Samarahan, yesterday.

He said among the offences committed by the officers are drugs abuse, absent from work and others.

“Meanwhile, from time to time, only about one or two cases involve corruption and abuse of power in our department each year. This offences will be take action by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ( MACC) while we will take internal action according to the public service code of conduct, ethics and discipline,” he added.

He also said that for cases involving work pressure, there are not many of such cases in the department.

“If there are work pressure cases involved in our department, we will refer it to our department counselling unit or if it is worse, it will be refered to the hospital,” he stated.

Earlier on, in his speech, he said that a total of more than 200 of civil servants from 29 government agencies from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan participated in the forum.

“The forum is a continuous effort by BOMBA in collaboration with MACC and Integrity Institute of Malaysia (IIM) with multiple approached which aims to enhance the culture of integrity among civil servants,” he added.

He said this year’s forum received good response from government agencies by the attendance of their heads of departments and senior officials.
