KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister DatukAmar Douglas Uggah Embas visited the collection, processing and packaging centre (CPPC) of one of Sarawak’s largest producers of leafy vegetables, the Poh Lian Vegetable Sdn Bhd, at Mile 13 Kuching-Serian Road.

The purpose of Thursday’s visit, according to him, was to learn from the company’s experiences in collecting, processing and packaging vegetables from its farms.

“The MYGAP certified company started producing some 4,000kg  of vegetables daily from just its 28-hectare farm in Jalan Mamat Satu since 2000.

“Poh Lian is a very successful vegetable growing company using the latest technology,” he said.

He said Poh Lian’s success showed that Sarawak could move toward export-oriented production.

“It is also a model farm for hydroponic. It has an acre of land near its CPPC using this latest technology, which our agropreneurs can certainly emulate,” he added.

Uggah, who is also Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister, said his ministry is now in the process of improving and enhancing facilities at its recently created CPPCs statewide.

“This will allow local farmers to sell their surplus durian, rambutan and other produce to the appointed anchor companies at their respective collection centres,” he said.
