KUCHING: The dissolution of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and the subsequent joining of its former members to the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) bode well for the future of Sarawak.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah reiterated his belief in unity for Sarawak’s prosperity.

“As I have previously mentioned on several occasions, anything that unites Sarawakians is positive. One of the primary reasons we engage in politics is to unite the people and foster the country’s prosperity.

Therefore, I view the en bloc transition of PSB’s leaders and members to PDP as beneficial for Sarawak’s future,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

Abdul Karim was commenting on the official announcement of PSB’s dissolution during a welcoming dinner for former PSB members at a hotel in Sibu on Saturday evening (Apr 6).

When questioned about whether Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) supports the inclusion of former PSB leaders and members into the coalition, Abdul Karim responded, “The dissolution of PSB and its members’ entry into PDP are internal affairs of PDP. With PSB dissolved, those joining PDP do so as individuals, not under any political party banner.”

Meanwhile, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Joseph Salang, said that following PSB’s dissolution, the independent assemblymen have the liberty to affiliate with any political party of their choosing.

“Given that the constituencies affected are outside our representation, PRS remains unaffected,” he said.

Regarding the membership of former PSB members in GPS, Salang deferred to the discretion of the Premier and GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, adding that the perspectives of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) should also be considered.

Salang also said that his party is open to applications from anyone interested in joining, albeit with a vetting process in place to scrutinise each applicant.
