Don’t park illegally on New Year’s Eve: SMC

SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has advised the public to avoid illegal parking during New Year Countdown event at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 here on Dec 31.

Organising chairman Cr Rory Wong said there won’t be road closures at the event area.

“However, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the dedicated SMC enforcement team will vigilantly oversee and optimise traffic flow.

“We kindly urge the public to avoid illegal parking, as stringent measures will be enforced to maintain order and safety. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated,” he told a press conference at the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) premises here today.

Wong also advised the public to ensuring cleanliness “which is of utmost importance, and we kindly seek public collaboration in maintaining a tidy environment throughout the event”.

“Strict measures will be implemented against any instances of littering or disregard for cleanliness standards,” he said.

A total of 30,000 revellers are expected to attend the event on New Year’s Eve.

The public will be entertained by various entertainment programme by local artists starting from 7.30 pm till 12.30 am the next day.
