KUCHING: The people should brace themselves for extreme and unpredictable weather conditions which could result in thunderstorms or blistering heat waves.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said it is crucial for Malaysians to be ready and stick to the advices of the authorities and experts.

“As we all know, when global warming occurs, the weather conditions are uncertain.

“If it rains, it will rain heavily with thunderstorms and if it is hot, it will be blistering hot. This will definitely affect Malaysians.

“It doesn’t matter what sector we are in, whether we are farmers, gardeners or fishermen. In these extreme weather conditions, we have to always be ready,” he said during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at CIDB Convention Centre here today.

The Petra Jaya MP also appealed to the public to follow the advice of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and experts, like drinking lots of water and cutting down on outdoor activities.

If it is necessary to be outside, always follow the advices or guidelines provided.

Fadillah added that the extreme weather will also bring risks to livestock and agriculture crops.

“For that reason, we should take steps to make sure that our crops are in good condition in terms of water and soil,  among others.

“We have a lot of water reserve in Malaysia but, it does not guarantee that there will not be a shortage of water because when there is extreme heat, it can cause our water reserve to decrease,” he said.

Therefore, the public should consume water wisely and some states may have to ration water due to this uncertain situation.
